As mentioned by the previous writer, without any size it is tough to say for sure.  But there are a few species that make these very round mud nests.  I saw one in central NSW a few months ago that was perfectly round on the outside, like the photo, and it was being attended by a pair of Apostlebirds.

I was out at Moorrinya National Park (central western Qld) as
part of my studies at JCU recently and we found this nest on
the ground. Click link for photo:

Many suggestions were put forward as to the builder but the
unusual feature was that the bottom of the nest was
completely flat, as flat as the table it's sitting on - it
was clearly not attatched to a tree and no ground nesting
bird would build such a structure. I'm certain that it must
have been built in or on a building (of which there were
several nearby) and I think one of the woodswallow species
would be the most likely suspect (I saw Masked, Little &
White-browed during the trip). Would anyone like to comment?
In particular I would love to hear peoples experiences of
woodswallows nesting in bui! dlings.

FYI Moorrinya National Park is about 1.5 hours south of
Torrens Creek, which is just east of Hughenden, Queensland.
I'll send some trip notes to the list at a latter date.
