This is also something that I've had problems with.
However, rather than the "I can't show that graphic" symbol - the red
cross, I get an icon of a cup of steaming coffee. I'm assuming this is
some Java script thingy for "come back later ... much later".
Could it be a firewall thing? They're always easy to blame.

With my nice new computer I can't see the maps on the website with the
Birds

All I get is a little square in the top left hand corner of the frame
with a
red cross on a white background.
I am using the 'popular' Windows XP and feel I have tried everything

could help after searching the Internet for advice.
