Hi, I've seen this too - in a dam in the backyard at a time when it was infested with goldfish. There were a couple of Kookaburra that loved them and spent several weeks hunting there. They were pretty good at catching them, but always did it with a belly-first splash, and I never saw them use the spectacular plunge of a river-dwelling kingfisher. They were fun to watch though, especially when they tried to swallow the Godfish. They would insist on bashing them against a branch, but had a lot of trouble hanging onto them. So they managed to hurl a few goldfish a surprising distance and then see them get stolen by magpies. Cheers, Danny |
