Hi all
For about two weeks now there has been a Cockatiel in the Bolton Point area
near Toronto (not Canada). My first thought was an escapee however it is the
natural colour and has survived for a couple of weeks so it might be a wild
vagrant.
And while on the subject of the Cockatiel I recall someone writing a while
ago that they were genetically closely related to cockatoos. Well we have a
cage-bred pet cockatiel and the only Psittaciformes that our bird gets
excited over are corellas. Plenty of Rainbow Lorikeets and Eastern Rosellas
around but he doesn't even hear them.
He is also as good a mimic as the butcher bird recently featured on the
list. He can do the magpie, butcher bird, currawong, and the phone ringing
as well as the wolf whistle- might even be more accomplished than the
butcher bird.
Cheers
Colin Driscoll
