G'Day Colin & Birding-Ausers
In Fiji in the 1970's a female Peregrine Falcon would leave the mountains each
non-breeding season and spend that time each year in Suva. She would reduce
the numbers of Feral pigeons around town and take rails from swamps as well as
Collared Petrels at sea. Fergus Clunie and I learnt this by collecting the
birds remains from below her two feeding roosts: the Post Office Transmission
Tower and the Catholic Church spire
Such seasonal feeding behaviour allows the food supply to build up again in the
breeding area to make next years breeding effort more likely to succeed.
Not a bad strategy - I wonder if Colin is observing a similar situation?
