Hi Everyone,
Mainly for Sydney birders.
Yesterday (Wed.) a friend and I spent much of the day birding the Winsor
area looking for the, recently seen, Owlet Nightjars at Cattai N.P. and the
Wandering Whistling Ducks at Pitt Town N. R. Failed with the nightjars but
saw 3 whistling ducks at Pitt Town. The day was partially cloudy, windy
around mid-day and reasonably hot. The bush birds were dead by about 10.00
A.M.
Cattai lived up to its name (in my estimation!) for surprising birds,
yesterday it was a Blue-faced Honeyeater. Some migrants are still around:
Sacred Kingfishers, Dollarbirds, Rufous Whistlers, White-throated
Gerygonies, Rainbow Bee-eaters and a single male Cicadabird (all at Cattai).
Not a single cuckoo was seen or heard all day and the only raptor was a
Nankeen Kestrel at the Richmond lanes.
Another Cicadabird was heard at Mitchell Park together with 6 adult Nankeen
Night Herons and 5 Variegated Fairy-wrens.
Bruce.
