Waterproof Binoculars

As a follow-on  to the discussions re binoculars, I have just found out that although my Pentax binoculars
were reputedly waterproof, this is only guaranteed for 12 months.  I would have believed that waterproof meant "waterproof" for the life of the binoculars or at least longer than 4 years.  So why bother to pay the extra for waterproofing if it doesn't work?

Does anyone know if there is a Pentax business as such in Australia.  I have done a search of the net without success.  I believe that this aspect should be followed up as to me it represents false advertising.

Thanks            Jan
