Hi All,
we're just back from a short visit to Lady Elliot Island (the report can be
found on my website www.splatzone.nl >> Downside up >> last chapter) and we
came across a newspaper article stating that an article has been published
about the Capricorn White-eye, being a totaly different species from its
sibling the Silvereye. I think this is about the (sub)species chlorocephala,
mentioned in Pizzey and Knight. The article was written by Jiro Kikkawa
somewhere in 2003.
Apparently this species is restricted to a few islands in the Great Barrier
Reef, including Lady Elliot, and indeed there were white-eyes present that
resembled the description.
Does any of you have more information on the taxanomic status of this (sub)
species? Will it be split in the next birdlist of Australia? As I read the
article it should.
For the Needletailers: there were two White-throated Needletails flying over
the island on wednesday 3-2, probable ahead of the storm depresion that was
not more than a bit of rain at Lady Elliot.
