Koels are still calling strongly at Seven Hills (40km west of Sydney)
and I have also heard Channel-billed Cuckoos calling in the last week at
North Rocks and Acacia Gardens (both suburbs NW of Sydney).

Having moved this year I haven't heard many Channel-bills at all this
season, but the last one at home would have been heard in early January.
Since the e-mail about missing Koels went out I have kept an ear out. I
am
heearing them less at home, but have managed to still hear them at two
locations in Engadine on the weekend (and a friend wanted to know how to
get
them away because they are still calling consistently at his place) and
I
heard another one walking up the hill to walk at Penshurst (all in
southern
Sydney) so Koels are still about at the moment.
Cheers,
Peter
