Just took a wander along the southern edge of Lake Monger. Saw all the
usual suspects, loads of musk ducks down there. About the only regular
species of duck that was a no show was the wood duck.
Got a good look at a clamourous reed-warbler in a tree on the water's edge,
they were unusually quiet this evening. A few little black cormorants
around the place, no little pieds.
Most interesting birds were the black-fronted dotterels and common
sandpipers.
At least two common sandpipers in the restored area in the south-east
corner. The dotterels were found in both south-west and south-east corners
but the thing that interested me was a lone dotterel near the path in the
south-east corner. It crossed the path back and forth a few times than ran
to the freeway side of the path and occaisionally stopped, spread its wings
and tail and lay low to the ground. Do black-fronted dotterels do the
broken wing display if there is a nest around? This is the only thing I
could guess the display to be. Couldn't find the nest however.
