Syd,

I think these feral domestic fowl were removed from the island about 20 years ago. I recall that they were all taken to UNE Armidale. I have no idea if the remnants of this population still survive in captivity at the University.

Hello Regan,

Don't know if this will help, but there used to be a feral population of the domestic fowl on Northwest Island in the Capricorn Group.  They'll still be there unless the Park Service has eliminated them.  I wonder if there has been some confusion?

<x-tad-smaller>Hi everyone,</x-tad-smaller>
<x-tad-smaller>I was poring over the new (seventh) edition of Pizzey & Knights Field Guide today (a welcome Christmas present, after my dilapidated second edition recently completely detached itself from its spine), and I was surprised to read that Red Junglefowl, or 'domestic fowls' that have "reverted to type of original ancestor" were released on some Gt Barrier Reef islands in the 19th century, and a population persists in Capricorn Group (Q) islands. I visit the region every year in winter and invariably sojourn on Great Keppel Island, but I've never heard a mention of a feral Junglefowl population on the islands. Does anyone know which island(s) the Red Junglefowl inhabit, and how large the population is? Also, what are some good spots to search for the ferals?</x-tad-smaller>
<x-tad-smaller>Thanks in advance,</x-tad-smaller>
