I'm seeking assistance in updating some Malaysian bird names.
Visited Malaysia in July 1993 and listed birds seen using (then) common names
only.Will be visiting Malaysia again in Feb 2005 en-route to India.Have got an
updated list of Malaysian birds (both common and Latin) but can't match-up a few
from my '93 list.
Hoping someone on birding-aus list can assist
with providing the updated names.
My mystery birds are:
oriental turtle dove (?Spotted Dove, Streptopelia
chinenis)
southern pied hornbill (?Oriental or Asian Pied-Hornbill,
Anthracoceros albirostris)
Phillipines glossy starling (? Asian Glossy Starling, Aplonis
panayensis)
little heron (? one of the pond herons?)
peaceful dove (no idea)
slaty banded rail (?Slaty-breasted Rail ,Gallirallus
striatus)
cuckoo-dove (? Barred or Little Cuckoo-Dove, Macropygia
??)
buff-bellied flowerpecker (? orange-bellied Flowerpecker,
Dicaecum trigonostigma)
house swift ( ? Little Swift, Apus affinis)
chestnut winged woodpecker ( my list shows this AND
Crimson-winged Woodpecker ,are there two?)
crested firetail (? Crested Fireback, Lophura
ignita)
