G'day All,

I thought many on the worlds best email list mind find what I have read in the December 13, 2004 edition of the weekly Newspaper Frankston/Hastings Leader (page 9) interesting.

May I say a big thank you for being inudated with GET WELL soon emails and cards, bless you all.

What would it take to get all the wildlife carers info burned onto CD's? There's nothing out there for them at this moment in time?

ANIMAL CARERS SOUGHT

WILDLIFE carers are URGENTLY needed to help the Mornington Penninsula's injured and abandoned native animals. Frankston Wildlife Rescue's Michelle Thomas said she was looking for three or four foster carers from the Penninsula and Frankston areas.

Ms Thomas said without help she was making five or six trips per week as far as Mentone which kept her away "from the animals at home".

Carers are given eight hours training by Ms Thomas before being asked to care for any animals. They are also expected to attend workshops throughout the year to upgrade their skills and training.

Ms Thomas said carers come from many diverse backgrounds They included people who had always been involved with domestic animals, and others who just wanted to make a contribuition to native wildlife.

Support and back up is available 24 hours per day once they started foster care, she said.

Ms. Thomas said it was important that WITH NO GOVERNMENT assistance, there was a financial outley. "We apply for government grants all the time but that doesn't mean we get them," she said.

"Sometimes Veternarians will give us pet carry cases that have been donated, or left over food, but generally each animal costs us one hundred dollars for specialist medicines, formulas and food."

Ms. Thomas said that as well as foster carers, donations of of carry cases, aviaries and cash is most welcomed.
