White-throated Needletails --

It had already begun showering when, on our hilltop, we found ourselves under a vast circle of clear blue sky. All surrounding that circle, heavy stormclouds whirled over the countryside below, and in every direction we could hear thunder. As the circle of blue came fully over us and the shower was ending, the swifts came pouring through - flying at mid-height (40m?), appearing to work the showering edge of the storms. This seemed remarkable, as it put them in the middle of the turbulent weather band, rather than on the leading edge.
