Jacqui,
My Collins Guide: Irish Birds
shows the juvenile in flight with small white patches, probably just on
one side of the feather shafts, near the base of the outer two or three tail
feathers.
Meanwhile my Birdwatcher's
Key shows the immature with similar markings, but near the end
of the tail.
I'd guess you've got the ID correct.
