G'day all

I've just received my copy of "The birds of Lord Howe Island" by McAllan et al. - published as a supplement to "Australian Field ornithology" Viol 21. It's a great read, very comprehensive and an example of how such local reviews should be written. I was pleased to see my record of an Oriental Plover listed. I photographed this bird in mid Sep 1982 on the airstrip - when I was a most inexperienced birder. Definitely pipped by Barrie Heather who reported 53 from the airstrip in mid Sep 1982.

Naively, I loaned my slide of the bird I saw to a NSW birder who was preparing a report on LHI birds a few years later after I'd gained a consensus ID on the bird. I haven't see the slide since but would like it back.

That aside I'd recommend the review as an example for anyone preparing such a paper on their area of interest.

Cheers
