Hi Birders,

It is a while since Oriental Cuckoos have been seen on the Central Coast,
1999/2000 to be exact, so that news that a pair were seen at Wyee Point on
Sunday 28 November 2004 was very welcome. A pair were seen together in
bushland near Don Moon's house on the Sunday but when Don and Val went
looking for them the following day they could not be found. Both birds were
grey on the back, white breast and belly with black horizontal bars. Wyee
Point is on the southern shores of Lake Macquarie, just outside Wyong Shire
and within Lake Macquarie LGA.

In the meantime the number of Sharp-tailed Sandpipers continues to increase
with over 1200 being present during November around the shores of Tuggerah
Lakes, and an unknown number were present in Budgewoi Lake. However there
have been no sightings of Red Knot, and virtually no Curlew Sandpipers so
far this summer.

260 Little Terns were counted at The Entrance on the weekend, about 20
pairs pairing up and commencing to nest in the fenced area at Karagi Point,
the majority of birds (=210) being non-breeders. A Caspian Tern with a metal
band on the left leg and an orange flag on the right leg was seen at The
Entrance too.
