Hi,

During a weekend visit to Sydney, I didn't get to do as much birdwatching as
I had hoped, but I did manage an afternoon in Royal NP (mainly Lady
Carrington Drive and Curra Moors area) and a couple of hours in the Sydney
Botanical Gardens.

The highlight in the Gardens was two different individuals of Buff-banded
Rail (one extremely confiding), while in Royal NP I was pleased to find a
pair of Pacific Baza, a roosting group of Topknot Pigeon and a solitary
Wonga Pigeon, as well as a few Black-faced Monarchs.

See below for a complete species list from the weekend.

Thanks to Frank Hemmings, Jesko Sirker and Shane B Vaucluse for replying to
my query and providing much useful info.

Cheers

Frank
(Melbourne)

PS: In reply to Jesko's RFI concerning Spotted Quail Thrush around Sydney, I
would try the old road up from the ferry at Dharug NP, which is supposed to
be a reliable spot for the species. I saw a female here a few weeks ago
about 2km from the start of the road where it flattens out. Also Origma
along the first 1.5km...
