Hi All
A few scattered observations from SE Qld of late...
Painted Snipe still in Lockyer valley last Wednesday (17.11) 3 Immatures
- excellent views. Also had 3 imm Spotted Harriers in Banf Rd (nr
Atkinson Dam) but saw no sign of the Letterwing. Anybody heard any more
reports on that?
Samsonvale at the weekend - usual numbers and species, nice to see a
flock of approx 45 Wandering Whistle duck standing in the early morning
light glowing bronze. Travelled to Protheroe Rd settling ponds and Lake
Kurwongbah - no sign of any Crakes or Bitterns, the water level was
relatively high in the ponds so maybe they have moved further back from
the road? Growth along the fence line meant that, to see in, I had to
park my car beside the fence and sit on the roof....
Manly wader roost this morning (Tues 23.11) - not the same number of
Bar-t Godwits as there has been, usual numbers of other species, altho
all a bit flighty. I wondered if the Godwits roost elsewhere - maybe
closer to their feeding grounds when the tide is not so high? I estimate
there were only about 500 and they left prior to the predicted high tide
at 7.05. Incidentally is ayone going to post the results of the POB
(Port of Brisbane) count of the weekend before last? I'd love to see
actual counted numbers to see how far off my estimates are!!
See ya out there,
