Hello Edwin,

Yes, they were seen by a fella called Neville (sorry I can't remember his surname) from the Hunter Bird Observers Club a couple of weeks ago. They were at a spot called Melaleuca Swale on Ash Island.

Quite a few people have looked for them since but as far as I'm aware they haven't been seen again. I had a bit of a look around the day after Neville had seen them with no luck. There is a lot of potentially suitable habitat for Painted Snipe on Ash Island at the moment with large areas of paddocks flooded. They could be just about anywhere or over in Hexham Swamp.

Cheers,

According to NSW Birdline, 2 Painted Snipe have been seen recently on Ash Island near Newcastle. Can anyone provide any further update on these?

Thanks

Edwin
