On behalf of Mr Niel Baker, Tanzania i post this general call
(sorry for cross postings):
============================================================

Hi everyone

We still have a few gaps in our January 2005 waterbird
count programme. Cheap flights are a possibility and
free access to parks and reserves let alone the
opportunity to search for the 32 endemics and other
serious birds.

TANZANIA JANUARY 2005

The Tanzania technical committee of the AFRICAN
EUROPEAN WATERBIRD AGREEMENT are organising a TOTAL
COUNT of as many wetlands as possible during the
MIDDLE TWO WEEKS of JANUARY 2005. We have many local
volunteers, most of whom lack counting experience,
especially of Palearctic waders. We need more
experienced volunteers from Europe to help with
training and counting. Counting 100,000 Little Stints
or two million Lesser Flamingos is never easy !!

We hope to have enough vols to obtain reduced flight
costs SO .... if you are keen to taste the 1126
species on our national list or any of our 32
endemics, or to have a dozen Shoebills in view at once
or a slice of the 25,000 Crab Plovers wintering along
our coast etc etc please make contact for further
details.

Volunteers will have free access to National Parks and
Game Reserves during January, before, during and after
the count. National Parks, Wildlife Division, Marine
Parks, an EU project, a KFW project and many local
volunteers are providing logistical support and
vehicles for which we will ask you to make a small
contribution for fuel.

This is THE OPPORTUNITY to EXPERIENCE the magic of
wild Africa while contributing to our knowledge of its
waterbirds to allow Government to create more Ramsar
sites as well as helping Wetlands International with
their waterbird population estimates.

Interested, please contact

many thanks

Neil Baker
