Hi again from the Design Class from Syracuse University, Our class has been
working hard in developing several areas to pursue through your responses to
our first questions we asked about a month ago. We have come up with several
concepts and are once again asking for your help and opinions on how to
develop these ideas even further.
Our first concept is figuring out ways to educate younger elementary level
kids on birding (identification, and the joy of birding for example) and a way
to educate inner city kids about birding.
Another concept is recording bird calls and how people would use and interact
with the actual audio clips. What would they then use the audio clips for,
documenting, educating, or entertainment. Finally, where would this device be
implemented, in the field or in someone?s backyard.
A third concept is using a bird feeder/bath with a built in camera to take
close up pictures of birds. Possibly using an audio device as well, to record
the birds in that specific area.
A fourth concept is about recording data in the field such as what you saw,
and where, this concept may be able to use a GPS position that would allow
other people to see where you saw a certain bird if you were to load the
information on the internet. Also a way to count birds using a handheld
ticker, (for population purposes).
A fifth concept is a way of using a platform so as to minimize the ?footprint?
left behind to the environment when birding in places that don?t have trails.
Our sixth concept deals with identifying the functionality of clothing while
birding, such as a bug repellant or protection from the sun and other
elements. This also supplies the birder with pockets and places for storing
their smaller equipment on them.
Our seventh concept is creating a device that would help either minimize or
eliminate the amount of soreness and pain in the neck while birding , (the
wobbler neck), similar to using a binocular harness around your shoulders and
lower back.
Our last concept is a way to communicate to a fellow birder where you are
looking at with your binoculars so that your friends/ fellow birders can see
what you see.
If you have any ideas for any one or more of these concepts, please share
them. Your help is greatly appreciated and will help us in finalizing the
designs of these concepts.
