Hello All, I didn't check the photo of the Straw-necked Ibis taken near Cairns by Mat Gilfedder, however judging by his written description it would be an immature. Around Port Douglas where reasonable numbers move through the town area, two or three such individuals as such are encountered most years. Because of their unusual appearence I have also given them a long hard look. They apparently lose these head and neck feathers at first moult.This may be a regional characteristic. Del.
