The local Dollar Birds arrived at Bolton Point yesterday Sat.
One of my observations over many years now is that there is not a mass
migration of all birds of any of the migratory forest species; which could
be different to the waders which seem to travel in flocks. Someone will
correct me if I'm mistaken since the waders are not a strong point of mine.
It seems that different niches get re-occupied at different times relative
to the species being recorded in the immediate region.
I kept detailed records over ten years for a location near Martinsville,
near the Watagan NP, and often noted that the regulars such as the Leaden
Flycatcher, Cicada Bird, Sacred Kingfisher, BF Flycatcher could be seen
somewhere in the district before they arrived at the local spot. I would
often hear Sacred Kingfisher calling high above at night well before the
local pair arrived.
Any research been done on this?
