Sightings
3 October
There were at least 3, White-fronted Terns at Table Rock near Ricketts
Point, Beaumaris. Thanks Vin Lam.
1 October
There was a Ruff feeding with other waders at the Western Treatment Plant on
the Paradise Rd ponds. Thanks Ben Smith.
Late September
Highlights of 4 days wandering about between Poolaijelo in far Western
Victoria and just around Penola in South Australia include a few Rufous
Songlarks; Chestnut-rumped Heathwren!! - local rarity & always nice to see;
Western Gerygone - out of range; Olive Whistler - if of subspecies hesperus
as appears, a rareish inland record (in pine plantation!!); Masked Owl -
enigmatic as ever and Red-tailed Black-Cockatoos. Thanks Lawrie Conole.
30 September
8 Little Corellas were observed over the residential area of Marlo
screeching and calling as they flew past. The new Australian of Australian
Birds and HANZAB Vol 5 highlights their absence from this area of Far East
Gippsland. Thanks Len Axen.
30 September
4 Little Terns were seen flying over the Corringle ocean beach adjacent to
the mouth of the Snowy River. An extremely early sighting for this area.

29 September
At dusk there were 2 Tawny Frogmouths sitting on powerlines in a side street
off Burke Road in Malvern near Central Park. Thanks Fiona-Marie Parkin.
26 September
There were at least 8 Wonga Pigeons calling in the hills immediately south
of Sheepyard Flat, near Merrijig. Flushed 5 of them with good views of 3.
Also Satin Bowerbirds (green) and Noisy Friarbird. Beware of deer shooters.

26 September
A quick visit to the Canni Creek Racecourse/Buchan Golf Club Reserve
resulted in a superb view of a male Southern Emu-wren in full breeding
plumage and a pair of Latham's Snipe calling incessantly from nearby
freshwater swamps. Thanks Jacquie and Len Axen.
25 September
Two Bush Stone-curlews heard immediately north of Killawarra State Park
(Warby Ranges State Park), North Eastern Victoria. Thanks Aaron Organ.
25 September
A single Brush Bronzewing was observed at The Pines Flora and Fauna Reserve,
Frankston North, during a BAYBOCA outing. Thanks Tania Ireton.
25 September
Near the corner of the Cape Conran - Point Ricardo turnoff a huge flock of
54+ Yellow-tailed Black-cockatoos were seen ripping open the burnt seed pods
from a mixed stand of Banksia integrifolia and Banksia serrata and devouring
the seeds. Thanks Jacquie and Len Axen.
23 September
Good views, in full sun, of one of a group of three Swift Parrots in the top
of a Yellow Box. Another group of 9-10 also patrolling in the vicinity of
Eustace Street, Blackburn. Thanks Trevor Kerr.
22 September
A minimum of 14 Grey Fantails at Melbourne General Cemetery. Thanks Sean

An Olive-backed Oriole flying west over Newry St, North Carlton. Thanks Sean

There was a group of about 8 Long-billed Corellas in Walker Street
Parkville, between the Zoo and Carlton Football Oval. Thanks Rob Lake.
21 September
The highlights of the Eastern Treatment Plant survey in Carrum were 6
Whiskered Terns, nesting Fairy Martins and a Brown Songlark. Thanks Mike
Carter.

Here are some of the highlights seen at Werribee Treatment Works 16
Black-tailed Godwits at Conservation Ponds, hundreds of Red-necked Stints,
many with orange flags on beach front, Sharp-tailed Sandpiper and Curlew
Sandpipers, some still with fading breeding colours, on beach front and
Conservation Ponds, many Whiskered Terns in full breeding plumage, numerous
Black-shouldered Kites some in Juv. colour and 2 Cape Barren Geese on
Paradise ponds. Thanks Wendy Dunn.
20 September
3 Orange-bellied Parrots in flushed from Shrubby Glasswort next to the hide
at Little River in the Western Treatment Complex. Thanks George Appleby.
20 September
This morning between 8am and 9am at Newport Lakes there was a Golden
Whistler in bush behind marker number and 2 Horsfield's Bronze Cuckoo in car
park near information sign. Thanks Colin Clark.

A Tawny Frogmouth is near Rushall Railway Station Nth Fitzroy. Thanks Philip

19 September
There were two Pallid Cuckoos calling and chasing one another, a Peregrine
Falcon, Brown Goshawk and Dusky Woodswallow at The Pines Flora and Fauna
Reserve, Frankston North. Thanks Tania Ireton.
19 September
There was an Azure Kingfisher, Olive-backed Oriole, a pair of Gang Gang
Cockatoos and a Little Friarbird at her nest at Lake Benalla. Thanks
Fiona-Marie Parkin.
19 September
Highlights at Hird's swamp included 100's of Whiskered Terns and
Black-winged Stilts, 4 separate sightings of Baillon's Crakes in 2 hours
birdwatching, Spotted Crakes, Spotless Crake calling, a pair of Brolgas,
Glossy Ibis, Intermediate Egret, and a nesting pair of White-bellied
Sea-Eagles. Thanks Simon Starr.
