This week I've been in the Capertee Valley 25-26th and again on 28-29th Sept. Some more recent arrivals include Scarlet Honeyeaters in several locations and a small flock of White-browed Woodswallows which turned up over my place on 26th. Rufous Songlarks are suddenly very vocal, and Bee-eaters are around in many spots.

A new addition to my property birdlist was a Wonga Pigeon which I heard calling from up the hill while still in my sleeping bag at dawn (part of a pretty amazing dawn chorus).

Also on my place, White-throated Nightjars (two individuals) continued to call frequently during the moonlit night and the Owlet-nightjar was quite vocal both night and day.

Turquoise Parrots are once again frequently seen in the area around the dam where I camped, and this morning I heard a Singing Bushlark near the front gate.

The first orchids have appeared on the property with lots of Midget Greenhoods (Pterostylis mutica) scattered fairly densely through the grassland.

Finally, I added another mammal to the list in the form of a Ringtail Possum - seen in the talons of a Wedge-tailed Eagle rising from the trees!

The magical Capertee Valley is in the NSW central tablelands.

Cheers

Carol
