This is the size flock we seem to get lately on the Maroochy River, 100 kms
north of Brisbane. Five years ago and more, there were flocks of maybe
over 1000, where the black line at sunset went on and on, looking almost
like departing Flying Foxes. This was not every day, but only at certain
times. In those years, the daily rafts on the river were probably 80 to
150, whereas now they are more likely 5 to 20.

This morning a flock of over 100 little black cormorants flew over my head
(well over my head!) as they travelled up the Yarra at about Cremorne -
about where the Church street bridge crosses the river.

Is this an unusual sized flock for this species? I know it's "flocking"
season.

Bill
