Further to Vin's bird call in the Little Desert and Carol's note about
Tawny-crowned Honeyeaters in Victoria.
As she indicated the north west part of Victoria where Vin visited does
indeed include the main distribution for the Tawny-crowned Honeyeater.
I've just checked the Atlas of Victorian Wildlife and all Victorian records
of Ground Parrot occur within 15km of the coast. No records have been made
for the species inland of these sites.
>From my experience of Ground Parrot calls at Melaleuca in south west
Tasmania the 'step-wise' rising notes given by parrots just before dusk is
a very distinctive sound you are not likely to confuse with any other call.
Still, until I had first heard and identified Ground Parrots it would have
been quite perplexing I'm sure.
