Just to let everyone know that there are still Swift Parrots moving about in the northern half of their winter range with records of small numbers over the weekend at Grenfell (south-central west slopes), Canberra (southern tablelands) and Eden (far south coast). It seems they are on the move heading back to Tassie so it is worth keeping them in mind when you are out and about. Please also keep an eye out for any injured swift parrots when they are near the built environment - there is currently an injured one on the south coast and another was recently released in the Blue Mountains area. Thanks to all the observers and wildlife carers who have let me know about the birds - very much appreciated! Yesterday I picked up a concussed Swift Parrot at Valley Heights in the Blue Mountains. I checked the area today and did not see or hear any Swifties. Lots of Varied Sittella, which was nice, but not what I wanted. If anyone wants to see if they can find the Swifties I would be happy to give directions. The concussed parrot is still in care and we are keeping our fingers crossed.
