Hi All,
For those interested in participating in this years Rufous Scrub-bird
Surveys at Barrington Tops and Border Ranges the dates are:
Barrington Tops 1 - 18-19th September
Barrington Tops 2 - 16-17 October
These are weekends. Camp at Gloucester River, situated 33km west of the
Bucketts Way, alternative accomodation in town. There is a turnoff on
the Bucketts Way, 10km south of Gloucester, follow the signs 33km to
Gloucester Tops National Park. The campsite is a large flat grassy area
beside the Gloucester River, quite picturesque.
Border Ranges 1: 25-26th September
Border Ranges 2: 9-10th October
These are weekends. We usually camp at Sheepstation Creek, but there is
also a small campsite at Forest Tops. You can access Border Ranges from
a turnoff at Wiangeree and head 17km to the Park, arriving at
Sheepstation Creek which is in the western edge of the Park. A nice
campsite on the edge of some magnificant sub tropical rainforest.
People participating in these surveys do not have to pay for camp fees,
but must bring their own camping gear and essentials. People can be be
reimbursed
for food and petrol costs, please keep receipts. On saturday we
assemble at the camping area at 0700hrs for a pre-surveying
briefing/talk on the Rufous
Scrub-bird and the survey site locations. Surveys will commence at
around 0745 hrs and depending on the locality of each survey team, will
conclude at around 1500hrs. The number of sites surveyed on Saturday
usually determines the time spent surveying Sunday, but the surveys are
usually completed around lunchtime Sunday. Survey teams will consist of
two people surveying at designated sites along roads and walking
trails.
ALSO, further to the email on birding-aus recently, Rufous Scrub-bird
surveys will also occur in Gibraltar Range, New England and Lamington
(QLD) National Parks. Dates are not finalised yet, but if you are
interested, could you let me know.
If you wish to participate in these surveys or require further
information, feel free to contact me.
Peter
