Hi everybody -
I have received by circuitous means a request from Isaac Forster
<>, who is banding Black-browed, Grey-headed,
Wandering and Light-Mantled Sooty Albatrosses on Bird Island (which, I
believe, is situated just off South Georgia in the south Atlantic), to check
any individuals of these species you might see for colour-bands. If you do
see any, please let Isaac know directly, with as much relevant detail about
the sighting as possible (and it would be a good idea to report the sighting
to the Aus Bird and Bat Banding Scheme as well). The colour-bands are made
of Darvic but I do not know anything more about them (e.g. what colours are
used, whether there is more than one per bird, or whether they have numbers
or letters on them). Apparently there has already been a report from
western Victoria of a colour-banded Black-browed Albatross.
Cheers,
Hugo
