In response to David Donato's message about a Regent in an Adelaide suburb
( and because it was only about 3km from home) I went to look for the bird. I
gave it about an hour in the locality but didn't find a Regent. Plenty of Noisy
Miners. The only thing vaguely resembling a Regent was a very very very
brightly spangled and iridescent Starling with an almost gold coloured
beak, orange legs, and a hint of wing bar. No face patch though and no whitish
colouring under the belly/ventral areas. The body and wing spots were very
bright, almost gold in colour. This may of course have been a different bird to
the one David saw, but could, at a quick naked-eye glance, be mistaken for a
Regent.
I'll go for another look tomorrow.
Tony.
