Hi Stuart,

Can't comment on Magellan as I've never dealt with them but a couple of years
ago we had three Garmin units that stopped working because the internal memory
battery had failed (as opposed to the 4 AA batteries that provide 'mains'
power). This meant every time the AA's went flat, or were removed, all data and
settings were lost. We sent all three back to the supplier asking if they could
put new memory batteries in them. We expected to pay for this given the memory
batteries typically fail if the units are stored for long periods (months)
without AA's in them (i.e. our fault).

The response was rather pleasant. They informed us that the cost of replacing
the memory batteries in each unit exceeded the cost of a new unit and so
promptly sent us three new units at NO cost.

Cheers
Rohan
