Wonderful day of birding yesterday at the new
Araucaria Walk at Brisbane Forest Park ( about 11kms from Brisbane City
).
It is a walk of 5kms which skirts the eastern edge
of Enoggera Reservoir, Brisbane's first major water storage, constructed in
1866.
The walk is named after the hoop pines that
dominate a low ridge beside the lake.
The 5kms took my wife and I over four hours to
walk!
Observed were:
pacific black ducks
eurasian coots
bell miners
rose robin ( female )
whipbird
superb fairy wrens
grey shrike thrush
forest kingfisher
laughing kookaburras
and lastly..male and female spotted pardalotes
busily nest building right near the track! My first pardalotes! So close could
almost touch them.Excuse my excitement, but have not been birding seriously for
long and this was a magic birding moment!
Got a few real good shots and will be posting on
the Aust. Bird Image Database very soon.
That's why it took us four hours!
Great spot-if you're a local-visit
it.
Credit to the Park's hard-working resource
volunteers and two Community Jobs Program teams! Will be sending them a job well
done message.
Cheers
