I was glad to hear today on the ABC news, that the WA State Government has refused to extend the Memorandum of Understanding to the group proposing cotton farming near Broome using irrigation from artesian bores. This would have threatened wetlands used by migratory birds. I could never understand why they weren't proposing to use the Ord River Stage 2 irrigation area NE of Kununurra. I thought this had been given the go ahead, but nothing seems to have happened. _________________________________________________________________ Frank O'Connor Birding WA http://birdingwa.iinet.net.auPhone : (08) 9386 5694 Email : -------------------------------------------- Birding-Aus is now on the Web at www.birding-aus.org -------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message 'unsubscribe birding-aus' (no quotes, no Subject line) to |
