Hi birders,
Can't really recommend a visit to Port Hedland, everything is covered in red dust including the  feral pigeons.  However on a trip out to Finucane Island, located Mangrove Golden Whistler at the start of the causeway & Bar-shouldered Dove & several Mangrove Robins at the boat ramp.
Karijini N.P. [19th-23rd June] - Highlight of the trip.
I previously thought the Mitchell Plateau was pretty special, but Karijini I feel is even a little more spectacular.  The gorges were amazing.
However, the birding was a bit slow, Weebill, White-winged Triller, Black-faced Woodswallow, White-plumed & Brown Honeyeaters & Rufous Whistler were easily the most common birds. Magpies which were almost rare through the Pilbara were a little more common.Others like Painted Finch, Crimson Chat, Variegated & White-winged Fairy-wrens, Red-backed Kingfisher & Ground Cuckoo-shrike occasional sightings.  Couldn't even find Black-tailed Treecreepers in the park, but fortunately found a pair near the Auski Roadhouse between Port Hedland & Newman, at Munjina East Gorge Lookout .  The bird of the Pilbara.
  To be continued.
Cheers
