G'day Birders,
this morning on my daily migration east I saw a bird that
almost stopped me in my tracks. Unfortunately I was avoiding my way through
freeway traffic so I couldn't get a good look, but it was unlike any thing I
have seen before. At first I assumed it was a Cattle Egret as I regularly see
them at this location (see below), but it was smaller and as I got closer I
could see it was pale brown (buff?) in colour. The wings seemed either white or
translucent, but with small black tips. The flight was very egret like, with
deeply 'cupped' wings as it came in to land (? didn't see it hit the ground,
bit it looked like it was going to).

Any suggestions?

The bird was seen in western Sydney, from the M4 Motorway between Reservoir
Road and Prospect Highway (just west of Red Lea Chickens for those who know the
road). It was about 09:30 this mo

Thanks in advance

Graham Turner
