Hi birders,
19-21st May. Kalbarri is a very attractive town set at the mouth of the Murchison River.
The birding highlight of the area was the Southern Scrub-robin which called each morning from atop a bush opposite the Red Bluff Caravan Park. However the spectacular gorges along the Murchison River are a must-see. Redthroats were fairly common.
A meal at Findlays BBQ may interest !!, if only to see the Australian Bustard figurine - very clever.  The "Rainbow Jungle" is a place I hesitate to recommend as some may find the idea of caged parrots undesirable. However this place is "The Hilton" of bird enclosures.
The cages are large & the flight aviary with birds zooming all around you was some 50mx20m, immaculately clean with ponds, waterfalls & vegetation to offer cover for the more shy species.  They all looked healthy & well groomed.
Personally I thought it an amazing place & good to see up close almost all Australian parrots.
  To be continued.
Cheers
