Hoping for a little help as I will be visiting Townsville for the first half
of August. It's virtually all new for me so I will be swamped with lifers
(going to be tough). I've no desire to try and "clean-up" but there are a
few species I'm especially keen to see, if anyone has any useful tips.I
probably won't be travelling much more than an hour or two from Townsville.
Red-necked Crake,
Pacific Baza,
Rufous Owl,
Little Kingfisher,
Golden Bowerbird (at it's bower?!).
Blue-faced Parrot-finch(wishful thinking?),
I'll purchase "Where to find birds in NE Queensland" by Jo Wieneke and have
found out lots from the archive and Google but if there's any current
hotspots such as fruiting or flowering trees, wader roosts, accessible
mangroves etc I'd appreciate the local knowledge.
Also if any local birders would like some enthusiastic company for a few
hours one day then please contact me.
Cheers,
Simon Starr.
Pyramid Hill,
Victoria.
