Hi All,
The Superb Fruit-Dove is still hanging around the privett trees in Sheldon
Forest, Pymble (northern Sydney) today. There is still much fruit on the
privett trees (both introduced species) and this has been keeping the Dove
and the 3 usual Brown Cuckoo-Doves happy, and looks to do so for a little
while longer at least.
I caught up with the legendary Kurtis Lindsay at the site, and for the first
time walked some more of the path beyond the Superb Fruit-Doves hang-out as
Kurtis showed me the local area. Great patch of bush, with some good birds.
Lastly, I have seen the blue subterminal band on the dorsal of the tail of
this female several times - the picture Nevil Lazarus has posted shows it
very clearly, although it doesn't appear quite so prominent in real-life
(probably lighting conditions as most of the time the bird is in the shade
of the trees) - very interesting indeed! I hope somebody can enlighten us.
Cheers, Dean
