Hi Netters,

My sister and I had a four day stopover in Hawaii on the way to Vancouver in June. The target bird was a Honeycreeper for a family tick. I managed to contact Michael Walther of www.ohaunaturetours.com and he took us out to see the Apapane and Ohau Amakihi. Also seen was the Elepaio and on one of his company tours Hawaiian Duck, Hawaiian Coot. There are numerous introduced birds on the island.

Michael is planning to introduce pelagic trips and asked me to join him, for my input, and some of his staff for a morning out in a 200 passenger boat the American Dream. We travelled out 25kms to two marker buoys and the highlight for me was a Spectacled (Grey-backed) Tern. Also seen were Red-footed Booby, Brown Booby, Wedge-tailed Shearwaters (all white underneath), Brown Noddy and Hawaiian Petrel.

All the Best
