For the last sixty plus years I have known that when local people ( South Australians) speak of Blue Jays, they are referring to BFCS and Blue Cranes are White-faced Herons. The Blue comes from the slatey blue/grey colour of these birds. These days it is very common to hear local SA Riverland people refer to White-winged Choughs as Jays.
