I've just returned from Darwin and Top
End.
Below are the highlights. I will try and write a
more substantive report shortly.
I would highly recommend Niven McCrie's guide
book. All sites referred to are Niven's sites. It's essential if you want to
bird the Top End.
Chestnut Rail - Pair at Buffalo Creek Boat
ramp.
Zitting Cisticola, Red-backed Button-quail, Tawny
Grassbird, Bush-Stone Curlew plus lots more - Holmes Jungle
Swamp
Chestnut-backed Button-quail - 6-8 flushed in long
grass in woodland between Cemetery and Sewage Ponds Pine Creek.
Also 6-8 flushed near Copperfield Creek.-
good views.
Star Finch, Yellow-rumped Mannikan at Victoria
River access, Timber Creek
3 immature Gouldian Finch between Sunset Lookout
and Town Lookout on escarpment road. 60 Gouldian reported by other birders
(mostly immature) at Escarpment Lookout. More Gouldians reported in
puddles on Bullita Track in Gregory National Park.
Black -breasted Buzzard and
Purple-crowned Fairy-wren - Victoria River Crossing.
Hooded Parrot -2 pairs on wing at Mary River
roadhouse
Northern Rosella 3 on road into
Gumlom.
White-throated Grass-wren, White-lined Honeyeater,
Chestnut-quilled Pigeon, Sandstone Shrike Thrush - Gumlom
escarpment.
Sunset Cruise at Yellow Waters

Disappointments Banded Fruit Dove and Varied
