Thanks so much to everyone who responded to my RFI on where to find MGWs.
The consensus is that they do NOT occur in north east Qld around the Cairns
to Cooktown area. There is a population further south around Ayr (near
Townsville) but apparently difficult access.
Popular locations are (in no specific order);
South Adelaide River crossing east of Darwin on the northern side of the
road.(NT) - the popular response.
the mangroves at Burketown across from the pub (Qld)
along the Norman River just behind Normanton (Qld)
Broome - Crab Ck. but lots of mud, or left of the old jetty at Chinatown, no
mud. (WA)
Broome Bird Observatory, nearby but lots of mud (WA)
Buffalo Ck boat ramp at Darwin (NT)
Port Smith, south of Broome, sandy mangroves (WA)
Derby - boat launching ramp, but sticky mud (WA)
Wyndham wharf and near Exmouth (WA)
Bing Bong, approx 50km south of Borroloola (NT)
Looks like I will have to head north again.
