Pallid Cuckoos certainly can over-winter. I have both seen and heard a
Pallid Cuckoo call in mid July at Nurragingy Reserve near Blacktown,
approx 45km west of Sydney CBD. It was very close to where I was
standing.

Hi Carol, Im not being a sceptic but I recorded a Pallid Cuckoo in
winter
from Annangrove where I lived at the time for a couple of years purely
on
the call only to find out later it was a Starling doing a excellent
imitation. When I moved to Wilberforce I used to hear a Whistling Kite
quiet
often but could never see it, I found out it was a Satin Bower Bird
making
the call, tricky things these birds.
