Further to Alan's report on Swifties on the Central Coast, on my way down to
Sydney last Thursday 20 May, I drove via Wyee, Wyong and Bateau Bay, taking
a good look at flowering Swamp Mahoganys. At Wyee Point, Government Road and
Wyee Station were lots of Musk, Rainbow and Scaley-breasted Lorikeets, but
NO SWIFTIES!  Also lots of Yellow-faced Honeyeaters and Noisy Friarbirds. By
the time I got to Sutton Reserve at Bateau Bay, it was getting dark and I
could only hear Rainbows and Musks - again NO SWIFTIES. They must go to bed
early. There appears to be a lot of Swamp Mahogany yet to come into flower
so I guess the birds will be there for a while yet.
