Hi Birders,
I am happy to report that the Swift Parrots are still with us on the Central
Coast since being seen first on 13 May 2004 . The 13 or so at Kariong were
still being seen there on 20 May; Up to 30 are regularly sighted at the
Shops/Sutton Reserve, Bateau Bay and indeed the 27 participants of the
Cumberland Bird Observers Club outing yesterday all have good views of these
birds; up to 24 are being seen daily in the Blackbutt trees of Murray St
Bateau Bay; and today, 9 were seen in the Morisset Hopital Grounds by
members of the Hunter Bird Observers Club outing.
However there have been plenty of flowering Swamp Mahogany sites revisited
since the National Count two weeks ago, but no Regent Honeyeaters or Swift
Parrots have been seen at these places. Morissett Hospital Grounds like
Bateau Bay, are places where Swifties have been seen previously so I would
encourage everyone to keep checking out sites previously used as well as any
new sites!
