Hi birders
Because I've seen very few trip reports on this list over the years from
alpine areas (or subalpine!), I feel obliged to submit a brief report
from a brief visit.
This time to Mount Buller on the very western edge of what can be
considered alpine/subalpine in Victoria - just up the hill from
Mansfield. I spent a couple of days stumbling about on a south facing
hillside below the peak of Buller - mostly on ski runs with remnant
herbfield, heath and blockstream habitats - bordered by relatively
intact subalpine woodland, heath and blockstream. All at or about
1,600m altitude.
Remarkably quiet most of the time, but with occasional Pilotbird
serenades, and these species (below) being relatively prominent.
