Not sure if you count Monbulk as a suburb, but I had it when I lived there
in June last year - just one night and it was flying round my house for
maybe 10 minutes "barking" - no way it could have been a dog from the
movement!
Would have replied just to you Barry but Hotmail says you do not exist!

Subject: [BIRDING-AUS] Barking Owls in Melbourne
Date: Mon, 10 May 2004 15:55:13 +1000
Dear list,
I have been informed from a well-informed academic source that Barking Owls
were recorded along the Dandenong Valley Parklands in eastern Melbourne in
the past week. This to me seems an odd record, particularly given the
difficulty of identifying this bird by call in residential areas (for
obvious reasons). Apparently the bird was identified by the
"squealing-woman" call. Has anybody ever recorded this bird within
Melbourne suburbs and if so where?
Regards
Barry
