I have been using the Olympus C740 for some time. I have been getting pretty
good results, see my site as under, however would have the following
comments
1. I should have got the C750 as the 4 megapixels should give better results
for distant subjects when you have to crop drastically.
2. It takes a long time to learn all the menu settings, just point and shoot
is not really suitable for bird photos. No real printed manual is provided,
you really must print the 190 page manual from the CD.
3. As you realise, the electronic viewfinder does freeze during autofocus,
but it is also difficult to get the autofocus to work correctly with
subjects like birds as the Olympus focuses on vertical objects, so branches
tend to be what it finds.
4. I have the Olympus TCON-17 tele extender which gives you 17 * telephoto,
this is extremely worthwhile for birds, however you must have a
tripod/monopod to keep the camera steady.
Nice to see the prices now being quoted, I paid about $890 for camera alone
last September.
